Only
one kilometer away from the little country village of Vilavenut,
within the town of Fontcoberta, and in the heart of a quiet
natural environment, surrounded by fields and forests,
the house allows the guests to enjoy all the time excellent
sightseeings toward the mountains and the fields
so typical from the region of El Pla de l'Estany.
Cal Duc is a Catalan countryhouse
from the mid XIXth century, specifically from
1846. Formerly, different landlords were in charge of the
house. At present times, it is worth noticing that the
whole property is formed by three lodgings (called
La Nena, La Nina and La Nana), with a total surface of
around 32 acres, of which 12 are used for crops, 7 covered
with black poplars and 4 devoted to forest.
Over the time Cal Duc has been dramatically
modified in its structure, thus making it possible that
two of the three houses have kept the original internal
structure, typical from the Catalan country houses architecture: stone
walls together with wooden ceilings and
edges. However, it must be noted that, due to
the damages suffered by the third house, the restoration
process was not complete, although this does not mean that
the house has not turned into a warm and comfortable rural
accommodation as well.
Cal Duc is of a kind of independent rural
accommodation, which means that rooms are not
rented, but the whole house is made available to the guests,
with all the services included.
Some of the strogest points are the accurate and
beautiful decoration, to the smallest detail,
combining furniture from the Elisabeth
period (1833-1868) with traditional and
colonial styles, merged alltogether with the fun
colours of the walls and the warm textures.
